Stone floors adorn some of the most beautiful homes in Arizona. Their appeal lies not only in their beauty but because the floor are easy to clean. Stone floor care is easier than caring for carpet or hardwood floors. If your lucky enough to have Stone floors, your biggest challenge may be stone cleaning. While it may not seem likely, your floors can be damaged. Foot traffic can create abrasions and dirty feet can stain the finish. Other damages include:

• Using an abrasive cleanser: You may feel the need to scrub that grime on your stone floor with a harsh detergent. But acids damage stone, especially marble, limestone and travertine. This could lead to a milky appearance.

• You always told your children not to spill drinks on the carpet but acidic foods and drinks can leave marks and rings on stone as well. Soda, fruit juices, tomato sauces and liquors can be damaging.

• Sealing your stone floors sounds like a good idea but if used incorrectly, the floors could scuff and peel. Be careful when stone sealing but don’t forgo it altogether. If the floors are unsealed they can absorb stains and begin to smell.

• When you were having your floors installed, you likely had other construction work going on as well. The floors could be damaged during this process.

If your floors have survived so far without any damage, the good news is they can continue to look great with proper stone floor care. Here are some tips as to how to preserve your stone floors.

• While you should use a dust mop on them often, you don’t have to mop with a wet mop as often.

• Avoid harsh and abrasive cleaners.

• Put mats at all major entrances to keep people from tracking in dirt. Dirt and grit cause most of the wear and tear on your floors.

• Treat the head of your dust mop with a non-oily residue treatment to hold more dust when stone cleaning.

• The grout can become soiled: Purchase a cleaner and conditioner made especially for stone floors and scrub the grout and tile with a soft brush. Use a mop to soak up the extra water.

• If you move your furniture often, put leather on the legs and other areas that touch the floor to prevent scuffing.

To keep your floors in the best condition, you need to hire an expert in stone floor cleaning. This is not different than hiring a carpet cleaner. Professional cleaners will be able to tell you more about stone floor care and will be able to help clean up any damage that is already there. If your floors are not sealed, you will want to leave it to these professionals. As mentioned earlier, stone floor that are not sealed properly can cause problems. Preserving your stone floors now will prevent you from having to spend excess funds towards repairing extensive damages in the future. A professional who specializes in stone floor care will make sure your floors are protected and stay beautiful for many years.

Bringing a rustic look into the home, limestone has been used for hundreds of years and goes well with the wooden or antique furniture. Limestone tiles are used as a base material for the roads and foundations, also in the laboratories and scientific purposes like the purification of glass. This sedimentary rock is made up of calcite and is light in colour but show variations due to different compositions of materials and iron oxides.

Now-a-days, they are getting very popular with its modern and impressive looks. These tiles come in many different colours and design. Usually, the colours available are like earthy tones of greens, blues, grey and dark brown and particularly a popular stone tile specially for bathroom areas.

For durable kitchen flooring, limestone tiles are considered the best one. The main reason why they are considered the preferred material is because they provide hardness, low porosity, comes with oil resistant properties.

Limestone kitchen tiles come in many colours, such as black, gray, white, yellow and brown. There are also texture variations because limestone tiles vary in shade and surface appearance. One would be astonished to know these stones are very soft, but certain types of hard and dense limes also exist. And this is the main reason why limestones are considered to be the best choice for kitchen flooring. These tiles should never be cleaned with highly acidic cleansers or those containing bleach as they will discolour the tiles overtime. Limestone should be cleaned regularly with warm water or a combination of water and a neutral floor cleaner that is specifically designed for limestone floors.

Usually, people prefer hard limestone tiles. Its durability is an exclusive tile feature. This account for its low maintenance costs which makes them an obvious choice for household and commercial projects.

Several landmarks around the world are made up of limestone tiles. One of the famous beings the Great Pyramids in Egypt.

Limestone is a natural stone that is derived from calcium carbonate. It is a soft stone that turns harder on exposure to excess heat and temperature. This converts limestone into marble, which is one of the hardest tiling materials.

The limestone tiles require high maintenance due to their soft texture. They are prone to scratches and stains, which makes them least durable. At times, the texture of the tiles loses its luster. Its color fades away and becomes dull. The streaky appearance needs to be dealt with care to maintain the life of the stone.

This occurs due to inappropriate cleaning methods. Sometimes we use harsh chemicals and detergents on the flooring. At times, you fail to rinse the flooring after the cleaning process. The dust and chemicals on the surface get accumulated and produce streaks on the tile surface.

The physical characteristics of limestone are similar to glass tiles. Whenever, you spill water on the glass window and fail to wipe it, you can find the stains of water that gets trapped on the screen. Similarly, the water that lays on the limestone tiles gets dried up to produce streaks on the surface.

These stains can be cleaned easily. Firstly, purchase a heavy duty tile cleaner. Mix it in 1:4 parts of water. Stir the mixture thoroughly and spread it on the floor. Allow the mixture to soak on the floor for 10 to 15 minutes. Now, clean the floor with fresh water.

Clean the floor thoroughly so that you can’t find a trace of cleaner or stain on the surface. Remember to buff dry the surface with a cotton pad or cloth. This ensures that there aren’t any water deposits on the surface. Thus, you’ll be able to maintain the shine and shimmer of limestone tiles for a long time.

The process is cumbersome and difficult to realize on every day basis. Hence, you should conduct the regime at least once in a week or fortnight. These simple care and maintenance techniques can bring back the beauty of the unique natural stone.

You love your stone floors but sometimes you wonder if they will last. Stone floor care is relatively easy but you know that anything can happen-spills, dirt and natural wear and tear can change the appearance of your floors. Here’s an exercise to ease your mind. Go online and look at the Roman Coliseum. That building, which has stood for centuries, is made of travertine, one of the most popular stones used for floors and stone fixtures in homes today. While stone today is often seen as a luxury, centuries ago it was the main building material. The Coliseum and these buildings have stood the test of time-with proper stone care.

• Djoser’s Step Pyramid. This is believed to be the world’s oldest stone structure, built in Egypt in 27th century B.C. The pyramid built for the Pharaoh Djoser, is 203 feet high.

• Cawdor’s Castle. Located in Northern Scotland, this castle was built in the 1300s. The building is made of sandstone mixed with other types of stone.

• Washington Monument. The most recognizable marble structure in the nation’s capital and the world’s tallest stone structure was completed in 1884 after nearly 30 years of construction. Made of marble, granite and sandstone, the monument honors the nation’s first president. Washington, D.C. has many stone structures throughout the city.

• The Georgia State Capitol. The Peach State’s capitol ironically is made out of Mississippian limestone from Indiana. Opening in 1889, this Atlanta building has retained its natural beauty.

• Innsbruck’s Cathedral of St. Jakob in Austria. Completed in 1724, this beautiful building features unusual textures and colors of stone found nowhere else in the world.

When adding stone floors or counter tops to your home, don’t assume that they will remain timeless without some care. If you want your floors and fixtures to retain their beauty, follow these easy cleaning tips:

• Use the dust mop frequently. You want to keep lint, dust and small trash off the stone surfaces.

• If you have marble, limestone, travertine or onyx, remember that acidic products can damage the surface. The same is true for bathroom cleaners with acid or cleaners that are described as ‘abrasive.’

• The preferred cleaner for stone floors and fixtures is stone soap but you can use a mild detergent.

• After you have cleaned the floors, make sure you dry them thoroughly to prevent water damage.

• Never mix floor cleaning chemicals together. Not only can this damage your stone surfaces but the odor can make you sick.

• If you do have a spill, clean it up immediately so that it will not mar the floor’s finish.

Contact a Scottsdale stone floor care specialist if you have questions about how to care for your surfaces. A specialist can explain to you the best way to maintain your floors including sealing your floors and honing the surfaces. With proper care, your stone floors will remain as beautiful as the stone in the world’s finest buildings!

Limestone tiles are sedimentary stones that are found under the earth. They are made from deposition of marine animals near the sea bed. These organisms are compressed under the earth for millions of years. Slowly and steadily, they get transformed to the hard wearing natural stone. These tiles are highly popular for outdoor decoration and landscaping.

However, the limestone tiles fade after sometime. You can retain their lives with help of color enhancers. The given below technique helps you, while applying the color enhancer on the tiles.

Visit a hardware store and purchase a color enhancer for the limestone tile. Ask a specialist to recommend a suitable enhancer for your tiling surface.

Every color enhancer has a leaflet that provides instructions for the use of the product. Read the instructions carefully so that you don’t create ant errors.

Firstly, clean the limestone tiles thoroughly. Remove dirt and stains from the surface. This ensures that there is no layer of dirt between the tile and color enhancer.

Now, apply the color enhancer on a soft brush and spread the enhancer on the tile surface. Keep the solution on the tile surface for 15-20 minutes. Allow the enhancer to penetrate inside the stone. Reapply the solution after fifteen minutes. This reapplication is necessary due to porous nature of limestone. Allow the enhancer to settle down.

Now, leave the floor untouched for at least four hours. If the stone is used in area that experiences high foot traffic, then avoid the use of the surface for 24 hours. Allow the enhancer to show its effect and regain its lost luster.

After four hours, clean the flooring with mineral spirits. This process makes the tiles suitable for daily use.

So, purchase a color enhancer to revamp the shine and shimmer of your precious limestone tiles

.

Upholstery Cleaning

When the furniture is stuffed and swathed with fabric or leather cover, it is called as upholstery. Upholstery makes the furniture more comfortable and gives a trendy and rich look to you rooms. The upholstered furniture look beautiful befitting to the home décor. But their cleaning is also very essential as it cannot be done with ordinary cleaning. The upholstery requires different cleaning and proper care. All the stains cannot be removed in a single way; you need to apply different methods of removing stains depending on the type of stains.

The stains on your upholstery can mar the looks of your furniture; don’t consider the hard and tough stains as a very big problem as simple cleaning tips on different surface materials will help you to do the job easily. The upholstered furniture is no doubt expensive like you have sofa, chair, loveseat and many more. It can get dirty with if you eat on sofa and bits of food falls down and drinks that leave stains on sofa, dirty feet and dirty clothing.

Before initiating the process of cleaning find out the fabric to be cleaned. The best way to clean is to test it in the inconspicuous area to ensure no discoloration or damage is done to the fabric. With the simple steps and different cleaning methods given below can help you to remove stains effectively.

If it is a greasy stain so the best option is to choose a dry cleaning solvent easily available in any grocery or retail stores. Put the solvent on a clean white cloth and blot at the stain, do not rub. Mix a mild ph balanced detergent in one cup of warm water and blot it on the stain, after that use a towel to sponge the solvent and detergent off with clean warm water and let the spot dry.

Some may feel weird but baby wipes can prove effective in cleaning some upholstery. In this too much water and soap is not required and the alcohol in the wipes makes sure that it evaporates quickly. If the stains are mild they can be removed by the inexpensive sprays available. These upholstery sprays work quite well but should be used carefully. These sprays won’t work if the stains are large patch of oil or grease.

The loose dirt which gets collected everyday on the upholstery can be removed by the vacuum cleaner. You should be wary if your sofa or a chair is an expensive one, the upholstery of such furniture usually has lot of organic material inside. In such cases it is advisable to get cleaned professionally rather than trying tips that ca be tried at home as it worth the investment.

It is a common problem to have hair of pet on your upholstery. To remove those hair use a pet rake, velour brush or even tape wrapped around your hand. The light and even strokes will remove the hair from upholstery. If not you can try with the rubber bottom on a clean tennis shoe, even the slightly dampened sponge can be used but see to it that it does not damage the upholstery. The vacuum cleaner with a beater roll or beater brush can be of great help. The place where vacuum cleaner cannot reach one can use a pet sponge. The pet sponge is available at every pet supply stores and is used dry.

Vinyl flooring, also called resilient flooring, requires a smooth surface to perfectly cover the surface. Resilient means that is designed to repel the weight of objects that hits it. It is available either in tile or sheet depending on the need. It has been found out that the solid vinyl is more durable than vinyl composition. Further, there are three basic categories namely homogenous, inlaid, and layered composite.

Cleaning is the most important task when the living room is covered with vinyl. The first step to cleaning is to make sure that the area is well ventilated to avoid accumulating moisture from the damp mop that will be used in the clean-up process. Next is to choose a floor cleaner manufactured only for vinyl flooring. It must not require more such as heating before it can be used so that the person can save time and effort. . A vacuum cleaner is not advisable to use since it may scratch the floor. Then spray a small amount of cleaner to the floor and wipe it with the mop. A sponge is also recommended since it absorbs water and dirt easily. Warm water is suggested to be used over cold water. Continue spraying and mopping the floor until there are no more residues that can be seen. Lastly, make sure that there are no soap residues from the cleaner and the surface is dry enough to avoid slipping.

Next to cleaning is the maintenance task. The thickness of the vinyl flooring determines its performance and the amount of maintenance needed. The time and temperature upon installation must be within accepted standards. It is important that the temperature is just right so that the adhesives won’t tear and will work properly. For atleast five days, there should be no rolling of heavy objects for the position of the newly glued vinyl might change. Marks of compressed adhesive will be permanent so anything that may cause this must be avoided. For the day that the vinyl flooring is installed, all seamed areas must be protected and no one should walk on it.

Regular maintenance includes simple vacuuming and washing occasionally with a floor cleaner is done every week to remove accumulated dirt and dust. Sometimes, the rough surface of the vinyl tend to gather dirt more than those smooth ones. However, the spills like soda that leave stains must be immediately wiped off to avoid staining that will damage the vinyl’s beauty. There must be non-staining rugs that are placed to sections that are prone to spill over or anything that causes stain to prevent staining too.

Once a year, stripping is done to remove the soap build up made by the normal cleaning. When losing shine, a polish specially made for vinyl flooring is used to recover its shine. Being very careful when moving objects such as sofas and cabinets is a must for the movement may cause scratches. These scratches can make the dirt stay on the holes made. This is why when moving something; it is advised to cover the floor with plywood to avoid having scratches. In addition, moisture beneath the vinyl flooring must be removed. It is much difficult to clean moisture than removing stains.

Rug Cleaning

Rugs can be found in almost every home, office, or any other establishment. They come in various types, materials, and styles. Depending on the rug’s type, the rug’s structure, the materials used to make the rug, the rug’s color, and the amount and kind of dirt or stain in the rug, there are various rug cleaning methods that can be used. Smaller rugs can do with simple hand or regular washing machine wash. The same goes for rugs with simple stains or not much dirt, as well as for rugs made of light fabrics and other materials that are easy to clean. However, bigger and heavier rugs, as well as rugs with heavy stains and dirt, usually require the use of special rug cleaning techniques. Some rug cleaning techniques require the use of a rug cleaning machine.

Rug Cleaning Machines

Companies that offer rug washing or rug cleaning services usually have rug cleaning machines to facilitate easier, better, and faster rug cleaning. Rug cleaners usually start by washing the rugs by hand. After that, they wash the rugs again through rug washing machines. Rug washing machines mildly scrub rugs’ surfaces with the use of four sets of mechanical brushes made of soft nylon. These soft nylon bristles brush off dirt from within rugs’ crisscrossed layers and fibers. They make use of Ph-balanced soap and water in a high-powered jet. Rug washing machines’ brushes can be adjusted to the right height to best clean rugs based on their thickness.

Rug Cleaning Equipment: Rinsing

After the meticulous cleaning and scrubbing, rugs are then rinsed with a specialized rug rinsing equipment that allows for thorough rinsing. This rug cleaning equipment specially designed for rinsing effectively and thoroughly removes all residues of dirt and detergents from rugs’ fibers and layers. By carefully removing all unwanted and unnecessary particles caught in the rugs, the rugs’ natural texture is effectively restored. This rug cleaning equipment makes use of filtered soft water which is continuously added to rug’s surfaces to ensure that all residues of soap and dirt are washed away.

Rug Cleaning Detergent and Rug Cleaning Chemicals

The special rug cleaning detergent and rug cleaning chemicals used in rug cleaning are both mild and tough. They effectively and meticulously soften and remove the dirt on rugs while keeping the color, design, and natural texture of the rugs. The Ph or acidity level of rug cleaning detergents is chemically balanced so as to avoid damaging the rug’s texture and appearance.

Steam Rug Cleaning

There are various methods of rug cleaning and one of them is steam rug cleaning. As the name implies, this method makes use of steam in cleaning. It is usually used for more delicate rugs that can be damaged with direct cleaning. By using this technique, direct contact to the rug is avoided or lessened, thus, lessening the tendency of the rug being damaged.

How dirty is your rug?

To determine what type of cleaning your rug needs, it’s important that you know the type of material used for your rug and how dirty your rug has gotten. Here are some ways to do it:

1. Rub your palm on your rug for about 5 to 10 seconds and if your palm accumulates dirt, then it’s time for your rug to get some cleaning.

2. Hold your rug in at one corner and kick the back of the rug. If a cloud of dust comes out, it’s time for rug cleaning.

3. Check the weft and the warp of the rugs and see if there’s a collection of dirt in areas that your vacuum cleaner could not reach it’s time for rug cleaning.

Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone. Metamorphism can be defined as the solid state recrystallisation of pre-existing rocksdue to changes in heat and/or pressure and/or introduction of fluids. This metamorphic process causes a complete recrystallization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite and/or dolomite crystals.

What does this mean to the marble floor owner? Marble is one of the softest stone flooring products on todays market, however it is one of the most popular choices due to its natural beauty. Marble is highly pourous. So it is very easily etched by acids such as orange juice, tomatoe juice, and vinegar.

Taking Care of it Right Away

The first step in maintaining and cleaning your marble floors is “wipe it up immediately”. This is so important with marble floors as salt dissolves and pits marble and acids will etch marble. Any liguids or solids which contain salt or acids are your marble flooring’s worst enemy. So if you spill it, wipe it up immediately with warm water, followed by drying the surface with a soft cloth. To further protect your marble flooring, it is recommended that you use small carpet rugs at any entrance and around sinks as these rugs will also assist in trapping soil, dirt, water or any ice-melting salts brought into your home.

Maintaining the Beauty

To maintain the beauty of your marble floors, weekly maintenance should include cleaning with a damp mop and then drying the surface with a soft cloth or chamois. Drying the surface will bring back its natural shine. It will also avoid any water stains. This is very common on marble floors. Always dry your marble floors with a soft cloth. Use a neutral, non-abrasive cleaner to ensure all spots or stains are removed once per month. Never use vinagar to clean marble flooring as it will destroy the finish.

It is very important to dry your marble floors after each cleaning with a soft or chamois cloth. To further enhance the beauty of your marble floors you will want to polish or wax them. Using a wax designed for no wax floors is recommended. There are alos products which are safe for marble flooring, designed to mop and shine in one step, saving the home owner valuable time.

To Seal or Not to Seal?

Unlike most stone flooring, professional’s do not recommend sealing a marble floor. This will take away from it’s natural finish. The sealer can become dulled and scratch and will have to be professionally stipped. It is also recommended that for any set in stains, chips, or pits, to have a professional to handle these problems. Your marble floors are one of the softest stone floors available. Your marble flooring also probably came with a huge price tag. The weekly care and maintenance is most important step in maintaining the natural beauty of your marble floor. The beauty of marble being the reason for your purchase in the first place can be easily maintained.

Keeping your home clean and tidy equals performing a lot of chores, some more complicated than others. It is common sense that you should vacuum as often as every three days, or at least once a week, and that you should dust your furniture every time you vacuum. These are the most common ways of cleaning your home. What most homeowners fail to realize is that there is dust, dirt, and harmful bacteria in many other places of their home. While many people resort to carpet or rug cleaning with the sole purpose of prolonging the life of their investments, they should know that it is highly advisable to have these operations performed regularly and not just for reasons of aesthetical nature. The bacteria and spores that accumulate in many places of your home, such as carpets, upholstery, mattresses and even ceramic tiles can be hazardous to your health and to that of your entire family. Even though dirt may not be visible with the naked eye, it exists, and it should be your number one concern to get rid of it, especially if you have small children running around the house or if one of your family members is allergic to dust.

Tile cleaning is probably one of the most difficult maintenance cleaning operations to be performed in a household. Most of us think that some detergent, some water and a mop should do the trick, but we couldn’t be farther from the truth. These may remove visible and fresh dirt, but in time a lot of dirt gets trapped in grout joints and tiles, making it difficult for homeowners to have clean and germ free tiles again.

As has been said before, many cleaning operation inside the house are performed with little more than just water and some detergents, but homeowners should be aware of the possible water damage with certain products. Water damage is frequently encountered with carpet or rug cleaning, not to mention leather cleaning. As all of these goods are either considerable investments or treasured objects, or both, you should definitely take into account water damage and the extent to which it can deteriorate the furnishings in your home. Water damage may not be an equally important factor in the tile cleaning process, as tiles are among the most resistant and durable floor coverings. However, there are other aspects related to tile cleaning that should be taken into account.

As has been said before, tile cleaning is easy to perform by any homeowner with a mop and some water. However, deep and sanitizing cleaning, which is a must given the traffic on ceramic tiles and the dirt that accumulates, can only be performed by specialists.

For optimal results, the tile cleaning operation should make use of high pressure hot water coupled with powerful vacuuming that removes all the water and dirt from the tiles and grout joints. Any attempts to do this on your own may result in serious mess and even damage, as you should also attach a dome to the floor, so that there would be no overspray or mess. Therefore, it is best that you let professionals attend to your tile cleaning requirements, but make sure that you don’t resort to that kind of professionals who do no more than what you could do yourself, yet they charge a lot for their inefficient job.
